Rating: 8.5/10
This book is not exactly a perfect ten, but its pretty close. It's a very interesting story that i would recommend to anyone over the age of 12. The book can be somewhat confusing at times with its many similes and metaphors, and there are some brief sections that have mature topics in them. The book is very exciting and will entertain you through the whole read. The book is very unbelievable at times, but not in the way that you're thinking ,"Wow, this is ridiculously stupid, why am I reading this?" The fiction allows for greater depth and entertainment throughout the story. There are many conflicts, normally involving Odysseus and his men having to use their wit to save theirselves or having to make difficult, split second decisions. One of these involves Odysseus and his men getting trapped in a man-eating cyclop's lair, only to realize that they can do nothing but wait to be eaten because of the large stone blocking the exit. At another point, Odysseus has to choose between going through the whirlpool caused by Charybdis, and risk either get through unharmed or risk losing everyone, or going under Scylla and having six men eaten alive. Odysseus is a very likeable character. He is very wise and strong, and able to think on his feet. You will begin to like him for the decisions he makes, which are not always the best for everyone, but the best for the majority. The contains amazing descriptions of nearly every scene in the book, so if you can understand what's being said it's as if a picture is being painted in your mind. A very good read, you will not be dissapointed in the epic novel that is The Odyssey.
